Obertauern is Austria's only purpose-built resort where you can ski to and from the door of most of its modern, chalet-style hotels, and then head out to sample the lively après ski in the resort centre. Known for its high-altitude queue-free skiing, it is the highest resort in the state of Salzburg. Now known as Austria's snowiest winter sports destination, the resort is shrouded by spectacular peaks. The scenic peaks of the Tauern range surround the area, allowing the lifts to fan out from a central point and create a superb natural circuit which can be skied in either direction. With its excellent snow record, variety of terrain, including excellent off-piste in good conditions, and great childcare facilities, this is an ideal choice for families and mixed ability groups.

Apres Ski: Nightlife in Obertauern is relatively lively with lots of action-packed bars. With no less than 25 mountain huts, and loads of venues at the bottom of the slopes, there are lots of places to try.

Eating Out: With over 20 places to eat in town, there's a good choice. Many are hotel based and some of the apres ski bars turn themselves into restaurants later on. From cafeterias, to mountain huts, to hotel restaurants, there are plenty of styles to choose from.
