Courmayeur lies at the foot of Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain, close to the French border in the Aosta Valley. It is a picturesque village of cobbled streets, stylish shops and excellent cafés and bistros, all set within an attractive medieval centre. The main skiing area is at Plan Checrouit, reached by a cable car, offers spectacular scenery and varied skiing on mainly red runs. The lift pass also covers nearby La Thuile and other Val d'Aosta resorts.

Après Ski: There is a good range of friendly bars, with something for all tastes in Courmayeur. Cocktails at the Prive, the American Bar for great live music or mix with the jet-set in the Cadran Solaire bar. Then head to the Covo nighclub in Entreves (free shuttle bus provided)

Activities: Sports centre including climbing wall, indoor ice rink, curling, fitness centre, squash and tennis. In addition there is heliskiing, a swimming pool (in next village), cross country skiing, ski touring and Snow Shoe walking.

Eating Out: An excellent range of no less than 50 restaurants and cafés to choose from, Traditional Italian cuisine at Cadran Solaire and Pierre Alexis. Pizzas are recommended at many places including Piazetta and Tunnel pizzeria. Plus the Vieux Pommier with its old apple tree, for local specialities.

Other Amenities: Weekly market, cinema (Italian films), shops and boutiques, local buses to Chamonix and Aosta.
